långfärdsskidor

plural noun [ långfärdsskidorna (sing. långfärdsskida, långfärdsskidan) ]
A very popular sport in Sweden is cross-country skiing. And you will need cross-country skis.

Noone ever uses the word "långfärdsskidor", we say "längdskidor" for cross-country skis, and "slalomskidor" for downhill skis. Those active in cross-country skiing distinguish between "klassiska skidor" skis for classic style and "skateskidor" skis for skate style. However we use the word "långfärdsskridskor" for skates used for long ice-tours.
